Last month I was asked to come to a menu tasting evening at Plume Restaurant in Matakana since they were to introduce their new winter menu. I have been to Plume before with very mixed feelings, however, they have a new(-ish) chef, Atesh Ram, and at a wedding recently I really liked the dinner, so I thought I’d give the tasting opportunity a go. Focus is on fresh, seasonal produce some is harvested from their own kitchen garden. I was quite impressed with the menu and can warmly recommend a visit to try it out. My faves was the Fetticine Carbonara, Smoked Salmon Fish Cakes, Spiced Pork Belly, Glazed Akaroa Salmon and off course the Venison. All beautifully presented. The Vineyard Platter to share makes a perfect loungey lunch paired with a glass of Runner Duck. Regretfully, I missed out on the deserts (aaaaargh) being too busy talking to Atesh, but they all looked fabulously delish, oh well…
